Design Automation
For manufacturers whose products are eighty percent the same and twenty percent different on every order. We capture the rules of a product family once and generate every variant — models, drawings, cut lists, BOMs and costs — from a form or a spreadsheet, built on the SOLIDWORKS API and connected to your PDM and ERP. Proof of concept first, always.
Book a Workflow Discovery CallTalk to an EngineerStop re-drawing the same product with new dimensions
Water-control gates, process vessels, conveyors, enclosures, electrical panels, structural steel, furniture systems: every order is a known design with new numbers, and every order goes back to a senior engineer to re-model. Design automation moves those rules out of people’s heads and into a rules engine that drives SOLIDWORKS. Sales enters the specification; the engine produces the model, the dimensioned drawings to your templates, the cut list, the BOM and the weight and cost roll-up; PDM receives it released. The senior engineer reviews instead of re-draws.
- Product configurators driven by a form, a spreadsheet or your CRM
- Rules engine capturing calculations, standards and tribal knowledge
- Dimensioned drawings, cut lists and BOMs generated with the model to your templates
- Weight, material and cost roll-ups for instant quotations
- Integration with SOLIDWORKS PDM, 3DEXPERIENCE, ERP and Tally
- Built on the SOLIDWORKS API and our own automation framework
- Foundation for AI-assisted, intent-led design
- Fixed-price proof of concept on one product type before any larger commitment
What customers measure after go-live
Sales quotes without engineering
Weight, material and cost come from the generated design, so the quotation goes out the same day and is right.
Errors removed at source
Once a rule is proven, every variant it produces is correct. The drawing checker’s queue empties.
Senior engineers back on new products
The people who knew the rules are freed from applying them. New product development gets its engineers back.
From one repeatable product to a configure-to-order engine
Most customers start with a single product family POC and expand family by family. The rules engine and templates are reused each time.
Fixed-price POC
One product type, proven on your real orders.
- Rules workshop with your senior engineers
- Working configurator for one family
- Drawings and BOM to your templates
- Hours saved measured against baseline
Product configurator
Every variant of a family from a form.
- Input validation and engineering checks
- Model, drawing, cut list, BOM generation
- Multiple families and option logic
- Spreadsheet, web form or CRM input
Quote engineering
Costs from the design, not from a guess.
- Weight, material and bought-out roll-ups
- Process and labour cost rules
- Quotation documents and GA drawings
- Hand-off to CRM or ERP
Rules engine & knowledge capture
The engineering behind the product, encoded once.
- Calculations and standards (IS, ASME, EN)
- Design limits and manufacturability rules
- Versioned and auditable
- Reused for AI-assisted design
Integration
Generated data flows into release and production.
- SOLIDWORKS PDM and 3DEXPERIENCE check-in and release
- Item master and BOM to ERP or Tally
- Drawings published to the shop floor
- Change handling when rules evolve
Prove it on one product, then scale
Select the family
We pick the product with the most repeat orders and the clearest rules. That is where the POC proves fastest.
Capture the rules
Two or three workshops with the engineers who hold the knowledge, plus the standards, spreadsheets and past orders they rely on.
Build the POC
Fixed price, typically six to ten weeks. A working configurator producing models, drawings and BOM on real orders.
Measure and decide
Hours per order before and after, error rate, quotation time. You see the saving before committing to the full engine.
Scale
Next families, quote engineering, PDM and ERP integration, and the hand-over to AI-assisted design where it makes sense.
Built by the team that built Concile’s own automation products
Design automation has been our core work for over a decade. The framework, templates and lessons from previous engines mean a new family is faster and cheaper than the first.
- Engineers who have automated gates, vessels, conveyors, panels and structures
- Our own SOLIDWORKS automation framework: reusable, versioned, supported
- Drawing templates and checking built in, so output passes your checker
- PDM, 3DEXPERIENCE, ERP and Tally integration from the same team
- Rules documented and owned by you; source code assigned on payment
- Natural progression to AI for Engineering when the rules are in place
Questions we get asked most
What makes a product a good candidate?
Repeat orders of a known design with variable dimensions, options or loads; rules that an experienced engineer can explain; drawings that follow a template. If your orders are genuinely one-off, automation helps less and we will say so.
Do we need to clean up our existing models first?
Usually a master model is built fresh for automation — cleaner than any legacy file — using your existing models as the reference. That is part of the POC.
Can sales people use it without SOLIDWORKS?
Yes. Inputs come from a form, spreadsheet or CRM; the engine runs SOLIDWORKS on a server or an engineer’s machine and returns the outputs. Sales never opens CAD.
What if our rules change?
They will. The rules engine is versioned; changes are made in one place and every subsequent order uses them. We train your engineers to maintain the simpler rules themselves.
How is this different from DriveWorks or Tacton?
Those are products you license and configure. We build on the SOLIDWORKS API with our own framework, which means no per-seat licence for the engine, full ownership of the rules, and integration built to your systems. Where a packaged tool is the better fit, we say so.
Does this lead to AI?
Yes. A proven rules engine and clean generated data are exactly what intent-led AI design needs. Most AI for Engineering engagements start where a design automation engine already exists.
